Around
town:
Don't
miss the first appearance by
former Mighty Flyers guitarist Rick
Holmstrom, with his new
band, at the Rhythm
Room on Saturday, September
14th. Rick's been a favorite of
the Phoenix Blues Society
members dating back to his work
earlier this decade with
legendary harmonica player
Johnny Dyer.

| Rumor
has it that there's a new blues
venue in town. Fat Cat's
is located on Van Buren St., at
Grand Ave., in Phoenix, and will
be doing blues on Thursday
nights. More details will posted
when available.
J.D.
Simo
recently finished traveling
9,000 miles, promoting his new
CD, One Night Stand (Blue
Star Records), and will be back
on the road soon. One of the
highlights of the Midwest Tour
was performing at Milwaukee's Summerfest,
before Buddy Guy. Another thrill
for J.D. was visiting his old
friend Kevin and his wife Julie
at their new CDGB's location in
Mason City, Iowa.
J.D.
will be featured at a CD release
party for One Night Stand,
presented by Nobody In
Particular Presents, at The Bash
On Ash in Tempe, Saturday,
September 28th. Special guests
will include Hans Olson, Tres
Ikner, and some surprises.
Tickets are $10.00, available in
advance at Ticketmaster
(480-784-4444) or at The Bash On
Ash box office.
This
is an ALL AGES SHOW, Liquor with
ID.
Monroe's
will be hosting Lil' Debbie
& Blue Plate Special's
release of their debut CD, What's
So Special? on Friday,
September 13th at 8:30 pm. Come
out and join the fun and witness
a whole lot of blues coming out
of such a little lady!
No
meeting this month:
The
Phoenix Blues Society monthly
membership meetings are normally
held on the second Wednesday of
each month. This month's meeting
would have fallen on September
11th. We debated whether to have
a meeting that evening or leave
the date open in order to allow
our members to choose how to
commemorate the tragic events
that happened one year ago.
The
argument could be made that we
never want to let the terrorists
change our lives, that we should
go on as before. But there will
be time for that in future
years. For the first anniversary
of this tragedy, we believe that
September 11th should be a day
to remember what happened one
year ago.
We'll
be back in October on our
regularly scheduled day, October
9th. The location will be
announced. Thanks for
understanding.
